The simulated patient, defined

Every medical school faces the same dilemma: clinical conversation is only learned by conversing, but nobody wants that learning to happen at a real patient's expense. The historical answer was the simulated patient: a person trained to portray a clinical case, letting students take a history, communicate a diagnosis or handle a difficult encounter in a safe environment.
